Tasty Nonna Pia’s Classic Balsamic Glaze

Are you a fan of vinegar? Sometimes you just want to try something a step up and that’s where balsamic vinegar comes in. Balsamic vinegar is an intensely flavored, sometimes pungent, dark vinegar that also has a sweet taste to it. There are many health benefits to consuming balsamic vinegar. More importantly, it’s an essential item for any kitchen countertop or pantry. Whether you’re trying balsamic vinegar for the very first time or simply want to try a new vinegar, Nonna Pia’s Classic Balsamic Glaze is a good product to consider.

The classic balsamic glaze by Nonna Pia has a respectable two year shelf life. Moreover, the glaze itself is certified gluten free with non-GMO ingredients. You may have noticed other balsamic glazes on the market that are very cheap.

Other products use ingredients with inferior quality and suspicious origins. With Nonna Pia’s recipe, they use vinegar from a city in Italy called Modena (known for its balsamic vinegars and famous opera). The aged balsamic vinegar is simmered slowly and for hours. This creates that tingy and thick glaze well-known for its smoothness and robust taste.

How to Cook with Balsamic Glaze

Balsamic vinegar and its smoother more concentrated glaze for is versatile for all types of dishes. You can drizzle some on lettuce wraps, salads, salmon, cheese, and even beef tenderloin.

When you heat up balsamic vinegar for a while, it actually becomes sweeter. Moreover, sometimes the already thick glaze can dry up quite quickly and result in burning. That may or may not be what you’re looking for depending on the dish and recipe. As a result, I recommend adding the glaze as the last step by drizzling the reduction on skewers, meat, fruit, or even ice cream.

The balsamic reduction will naturally add new flavor dimensions to your food. You can also mix it with lime juice or apple juice for additional flavor profiles. Needless to say, the possibilities are endless.

About Nonna Pia’s Gourmet

Norm and Natasha Strim are the own Nonna Pia’s product line. Based in British Columbia, Canada, they started making balsamic glaze in their own kitchen stove. Using traditional pots to simmer for hours, they were able to create tasty reductions. They also traveled to various farmer’s markets and shows to share their creations and improve the recipe.

The name “Nonna Pia” came from Chef Norm’s mother, Pia. He and his siblings would refer to their Mom as “Nonna Pia.” Growing up, Chef Norm would learn most things about cooking from Nonna Pia and her instructions inspired him to create his own products.
